Cerebral palsy is a group of neurological disorder which can be seen in early childhood that affects movement, muscle tone, or posture.

The major causes of Cerebral palsy

​

Children with cerebral palsy mostly have speech problems. Cerebral palsy can affect a person’s ability to finely coordinate the muscles around the face, throat, neck, and head. This leads to cause problem in speech and swallowing.

 

Treatment:

 

Speech therapist helps cerebral palsy patients to improve speech, communication by strengthening the muscles used for speech. Sometimes persons with cerebral palsy may also have difficulty in hearing and face problems in understanding spoken speech.

 

Through speech therapy following problems can be solved in cerebral palsy children-

  • Misarticulation

  • Problem in pronunciation

  • Stuttering/ fluency disorder

  • Listening

  • Language problem, word comprehension

  • Dysphagia/swallowing disorder

  • Drooling

  • Chewing problem

  • Voice problem

  • Breath support and control

  • Communication is very much essential in overall development like cognitive, academic, social, & emotional development. As the child learns to speak better, can get benefits in other aspects of life and develops in a better way.
